NBC shows online, but not in Canada…
I recently received a nice email from someone named Amie Kershbaum at 360i, promoting The Black Donnellys on behalf of NBC. At first I thought it was spam but quickly realized that it was a real letter from a real person. Presumably she found me due to my recent blog post about the show.
Amie was letting me know that there was going to be an online only episode of The Black Donnellys airing after the second episode - online only because of its “intense footage” and that it was “just too edgy to be aired”. OK, even though I’m not a huge fan of the show yet (Ally is getting into it, tho) - I’ll bite. Loading up the clip and I see a brief advert, followed by “We’re sorry, but the clip you selected isn’t available from your location. Please select another clip.”
Apparently Canadian’s aren’t good enough to view NBC content online, even though we are good enough to receive the network broadcasts. They certainly didn’t block showing the commercial first, though! I’ve emailed Amie as a followup and she said that she’d get back to me on it - a quick google search shows that I’m not the only one with this problem, so I’m doubtful that anything will change.
Just one more reason why I’d rather download tv shows from bitmetv or some other torrent site rather than jump through these kinds of hoops online.

Yep, I ran into the same problem a week ago while trying to catch up on my favourite TV shows. ABC has the same limitation too. I wonder if it’s got something to do with contract agreements with the Canadian TV stations (Global, CTV, etc…)

Yeah, I think it might be because we don’t have any piracy laws here, and the US might be trying to get back at us somehow. But that wouldn’t make any sense about the UK than, b/c I think they do have the laws. I dunno, it angervates me allot.
